Reflection prototype for my capstone, at the moment my progress are going well. We finished discussing about our characters background story during summer holiday before school starts. So when first semester starts, we will have more spare time to begin designing the final concept art of the characters, and I can start drawing them in pixels sooner afterward. As much as I like drawing all the 4 characters into a cute pixel art size, it tooks so much time drawing with different directions, front, back, left and right side. Not to mention the repetitive times I have to put them in Unity Animator... I will finish it during first Mid Semester break! ^^
Another challenging thing I faced was designing the fourth patient level. Since I have never designed a traumatic horror game before, I had only created levels that gave an uncanny vibe-familiar but unsettling, with jump scares at the end. Designing a level that truly reflects the traumatic nature of the patient’s childhood is a completely new experience for me. My teamate, who is an expert on horror games, gave me an advice: she suggested that I imagine being the patient and think about what kind of horrific moments I might have experienced that could affect my mentality for the rest of my life. I'm imagining the world for him probably corrupted, he feels trapped, and wants to escape reality. Therefore, I created the level design like this for now. Later during the mid-semester break, I might come up with new ideas to incorporate into the level design.
Lastly, the only thing I am worrying about was the lighting. Even though we added dim lights and spot lights, the environment still looks off; it doesn’t match my imagination of how it should look. For the clinic, is pastel light cute pink but it still doesn not have the fantasy atsmosphere I wanted to be. Also, for the first patient environment, it still looks flat and isn't as moody or scary as I thought. Something is missing, so hopefully we will find a solution and be able to enhance the atmosphere of the environment.
